Membership
When does my membership start?
The 3, 6 or 12 month membership starts on the date you sign up with the service. For example, a three month new membership starting on January 19th would expire on March 26th. We give each new membership an extra week to allow for the time to get TAPE-it-Golf tracking cards to you in the mail.
Can I extend my membership during my current period and get the discount offered for a longer period?
Yes, you order the new period and receive the appropriate discount for the longer subscription period. We reset your expiration date by adding the number of months purchased to the end of your current expiration date.
Does my membership automatically renew?
Yes, members find this a convenience and it ensures your data will be retained in our system.
What if I don’t want to renew my membership?
We certainly hope you don’t cancel your membership, but you may cancel your membership up prior to the renewal date.
Do I get a credit if I cancel during my membership?
We will issue a credit consistent with our Terms and Conditions. Please refer to Section 8.0 of our Terms and Conditions for specifics.
What happens to my rounds if I cancel my membership?
Your data willl be deleted and will not be available if you join again at a later date.
Can I order cards if I cancel my membership?
No, the TAPE-it-Golf input card is meant to be used with our website for a comprehensive golf improvement process. We believe both are required to take full advantage of the Track – Analyze – Practice – Execute improvement process.
Explain the group concept. How does it work?
The group concept grew out of a need to isolate a group of golfers for analysis and leaderboard recognition. Everyone in the system is a member of the TAPE-it-Golf (system wide) group. Additionally, you may be part of a private group. A typical private group would be a golf club with the head pro as the leader. In the case of the latter, you select whether the group leader, e.g. the head golf pro at your club, can see your rounds. Also, you select whether to use your first and last name on the private group leaderboard (vs. your username).
Can I change or ‘opt out’ of a group?
If you, for example, move between clubs that both have a TAPE-it-Golf private group, then ask your new Head Pro for the TAPE-it-Golf group code. Update your group code in the database and you will become a member of the new group. Likewise, if you desire to not be part of a group, then just go in and delete the group code.
Input Card
Can I track selected parts of my game, e.g. Putting only?
You can, however the decision should be made carefully because your rounds will be incomplete on your website history. If you decide to track only certain clubs, then track all the shots with that club. For example, if you want to track performance with your driver, but not other woods, then track all driver shots so we can calculate your % Good Driver.
I forgot to record a hole and I can’t remember what I did. Should I throw away the card and not enter it?
Absolutely NOT! All of the data for the other holes is good and all of the metrics computed on the site will still be accurate based on how you were playing that day. Typically one hole will not alter the % calculations that much. Just get into the habit of crossing off the hole as you enter it, then if you miss a hole you’ll probably catch it on the next hole when you still remember it!
I counted my dots and the number of shots I took doesn’t match my score, how come?
First of all, it should be emphasized that TAPE-it-Golf.com is a Tracking and Analysis system, not a scoring system. Ideally, your number of dots, including any in the penalty and Gimmie sections will equal your score, but if you forgot a shot, then you may be off. Proceed to enter the data on the card as the analysis is still valid.
Your explanation of ‘Good’ was clear enough in the instructions, but what if my interpretation of Good isn’t the same as someone else’s in my group at the same handicap level. Doesn’t that make the leaderboard ‘subjective’?
We understand that, particularly within a club or team, the leaderboard may become ‘competitive’. The leaderboard is based on the last 10 rounds, so slight interpretation differences won’t impact results. However, golfers who ‘game’ the system may have issues with their handicap committee or membership. We suggest talking to the group leader if the problem persists.
I sliced a driver well into the woods and made a great shot onto the green for my par. The driver didn’t cost me any strokes, why isn’t it a Good shot?
Because it wasn’t a good shot. The probability of repeatedly making your recovery shot to the green is very low. Call the recovery shot a Good shot and the driver a slice.
Doesn’t the definition of Good change from a 3 Handicap to a 25 Handicap? If I’m a 25 handicap and (to my mind) hit a great drive straight down the fairway 100 yards, then that should be good, right?
It’s certainly true that expectations between handicap levels do (and should) change. However, the concept of Goodness implies that the result of the shot didn’t cost you any strokes from Par. So a 100 yard drive probably means the chance of making the green on the next shot is very low, hence it would be classified as a short drive.
Keep in mind that the Goal setting (yours and the peer group) will reflect changes in handicap levels. A 3 handicap would be expected to have a very high Driver Good % goal whereas a 25 handicap would have a much lower percentage.
Why don’t you track Up & Down % like everyone else in Golf. Why base it on Up and Down opportunities vs. whether I got Up and Down for the score?
Very simply, the true measure of the times you got Up and Down is based on the number of opportunities to do so. Again, TAPE-it-Golf.com is trying to present you the real data to understand the state of your game so you will know where to focus your practice.
I’ve heard that recording ‘bad’ shots will cause more bad shots by focusing my mind on the negative. How does this process deal with that?
First, the theory has been debated by psychologists who also point out that putting down positive things (Good shots) reinforces good feelings. By just putting a ‘ ’ in a box, you mentally don’t think about ‘good or bad’. After a couple of rounds with the TAPE-it-Golf.com input card, you virtually never think about it. You are quickly capturing shots for later reflection and analysis.
Why don’t you record course ratings and slopes so I can compare my score across different courses?
TAPE-it-Golf.com is not a handicap or scoring system. That’s what you get from your state golf association and GHIN. The reason we have you put in your handicap for the course during round entry is to call up the goals associated with that handicap group for your Round Analysis report.
Why do you capture ‘Gimmies’?
First, because they count as a shot. Secondly, since you didn’t take the shot, we don’t want them to be included in your Short putt analysis. If you start to see too many Gimmies, you might want to politely decline the offer and putt the short ones.
Round Analysis Report
I play courses with vastly different ratings, hence my handicap on a course can vary significantly. How does the system handle this from a goals and points earned perspective?
The expected Goal percentages are based on handicap levels (0-4, 5-8, etc.). If you are a member of a private peer group, playing at a different course and handicap level may result in a different set of group goals being used for that round. Since you can change your individual goals at any time, you could change them to reflect a different handicap prior to round entry and then change them back later on when you get back to your home course. This is not advised, however.
How do I set my goals in the nine areas?
Two suggestions. 1) Discuss it with your local pro or any golf instructor. They should be able to help you. 2) Use the peer goals to start with and adjust from there.
A person in my peer group showed me his goals, which I thought were ridiculously low for his handicap group. This will affect his points and leaderboard ranking. What should I do?
While we encourage people to set realistic, attainable goals, setting easy goals just defeats the improvement process. Relative to the leaderboard, you might mention it to him or to the pro. However, the individual is the only one who can change his / her goals.
Why do you give more weight to the peer group points vs. individual points?
Meeting or exceeding independently set goals should count for more. Everyone at that handicap level is competing against the same set.
I brought up the report and find that I made a mistake in entering the round. Can I change it? Can I delete the round and start over?
When you enter the round, you have the ability to review and change any field entered in the Summary Tracking screen. That is the only time we allow changes to the round. You can not delete rounds. Keep in mind that for purposes of the leaderboard, only the last 10 rounds count.
If I'm a member of a peer group, do I appear on the 'system wide' peer group leaderbaord?
Not at this time. A person can only be on one leaderboard at a time.
If I’m a member of a private peer group, can I see the goals established for the system wide board. How are they established?
A display of the system wide goals is planned. They will be established by analyzing all of the rounds entered by handicap group level and consulting with a group of golf pros for verification.
Trends
Why are there so many trends to choose from?
Many people want to ‘zero in’ on a unique aspect of their game and focus improvement in that area. TAPE-it-Golf.com members have worked hard to track and enter their data and we want to give them back that data in an easy to use format. We certainly don’t expect members to print out all of the trends each month, but they may print out a few trends and then select specific improvement areas and print those out occasionally.
Why do you print out the current goal (mine and peer group) vs. the goal in place at the time the round was played?
First, from a trending standpoint, we believe it more important to measure progress over time against where you want your game to be today, not sometime in the past. Also, if you want to bring up a previous Round Analysis report, it will have the goal in place at that time on the report.
Why three round moving average? Can I select other options (5 or 10 round averages, for example)?
A three round moving average will give you a trend and yet show ups and downs more explicitly. There are not any plans to change this.
Can I exclude rounds from my trends?
No, you can not.
Can I export my data to Excel and do my own trending?
There is no feature currently for exporting data, but it may be added later.
Leaderboard
A person in our peer group sets ‘low’ goals, which gives him a higher leaderboard position. What should I do?
See the answer above under the Round Analysis Report section.
My handicap just changed from a 9 to a 10, but I’m still reported under the Handicap 5-9 leaderboard. How do I change it?
In your profile, you enter the leaderboard handicap grouping that you want to be reported under. This should be the handicap group which represents the courses you play most often.
I changed my handicap grouping and I’m now in the new leaderboard, but the points are the same. Shouldn’t those 10 rounds be recalculated against the goals for the new handicap group?
The points were ‘earned’ when you played at a different handicap level, therefore they will not change. However, from this point on, points earned will be against the new handicap goals.
I see my points on the leaderboard but I don’t know what they mean. Can you explain it?
Points are accumulated and reported on the leaderboard for the last 10 rounds. Since there are a possible 100 points per round, if you have 756 points, then you can basically state that you are meeting or exceeding your own and peer group goals 75+ % of the time.
Can’t I see how I’ve done historically in meeting the goals, I mean more than the last ten rounds?
There is a trend available to do a three round moving average on total points earned by round.
Security, Administration and Billing
Why do I see my real first and last name on my peer group leaderboard but only my User ID on the system wide board?
In the profile, we give you the option to allow your first and last name to be viewed on your peer board only. Only persons who are part of the peer group can see that leaderboard. We encourage you to allow people in your peer group to see you ‘real’ name. On the system wide board, we want you to see where you stand but want to protect your privacy so only User ID is used.
My User ID is the same as my real name. Can I have a different name for the system wide leaderboard?
Not at the present time.
I gave permission to my peer group leader (golf pro) to see my round data. But now he is leaving and someone new is taking his place. Can I restrict this feature until I get comfortable with the new person?
This viewing option can be changed at any time. It’s important for a golf pro to be able to monitor club or team members’ rounds so they can offer advice, even if you are not currently working with them. So we encourage leaving this feature on, but it’s up to you. If you change it (to restrict viewing), no notification is sent to the pro. Your name would be removed from the peer group list the pro selects from to view rounds.
My pro told me he had looked at my last five rounds, but I never told him I played the rounds. How did he know?
If you have given him access to view your rounds, the system sends him an email when you have entered five new rounds. He can then go in and look at them. This saves him (and you) time. The goal is for him to know more about your game on the course so he/she can help you more. Of course, it’s up to you whether you follow up with lessons, etc.
I forgot to order more cards and I have a couple of rounds coming up. I will order right away but can I copy a blank and use it until the new ones arrive?
Just send an email to the customer service mail box and we will give you permission to copy the card in the interim. The TAPE-it-Golf.com input card is copyrighted and copying the card can only be permitted with the explicit permission. |
